SAMPLING

Building Bridges Between Populations and Samples in Epidemiological Studies   http://www2.sph.unc.edu/chsr/Dissemination/Arph_sub.htm   This paper appeared in the 2000 Annual Review of Public Health  'this paper describes the origin, implications, and some plausible resolutions for several issues. Some of the main issues we consider include: establishing whom the sample represents, using sample weights, understanding the role of other important features such as the use of sampling stratification and the selection of clustered groups of population members, as well as finding ways to analyze study data with key sampling features in mind."

Respondent Driven Sampling.   http://www.columbia.edu/~mjs2105/rds.html    This method uses snowball sampling, not to estimate population characteristics, but to estimate characteristics of a network of people in a hidden population (e.g., drug users, etc)

Respondent Driven Sampling http://www.respondentdrivensampling.org/ Respondent Driven Sampling is a chain-referral method, or 'snowball' sampling that yields random samples of target populations and provides the means to calculate unbiased estimates of population parameters.
