The World Bank has a wide variety of data, on topics including
agriculture, aid effectiveness, climate change, economics,
education, gender, health, infrastructure, poverty, science and
technology, social development, and more. These data show current
conditions and trends.
Here we explore some of the World Bank data, to see what they have
to say about the world around us.
1. Educational Attainment http://gsociology.icaap.org/report/wb/ED/WorldBankEducation.html
- Basically, the WB has three indicators, literacy rate,
secondary enrollment and tertiary enrollment.
- Literacy has data for the fewest countries, secondary
enrollment the most.
- The three indicators are fairly well correlated.
- In some regions (Latin America and Caribbean, Middle East
and North Africa), there are some, but not huge, differences
between countries with the highest and lowest secondary
enrollment rates. In other regions (Sub Saharan Africa, South
Asia and Pacific), there are large differences.
2. Infant Mortality Rate http://gsociology.icaap.org/report/wb/IMR/WorldBankIMR.html
